St. John offers many opportunities for parishioners to learn about and deepen their faith. Follow the links below to learn more about these opportunities.

St. John School

As a vital part of our parish, St. John School , from preschool through grade eight, seeks the formation of the whole child and helps children carry out their responsibilities to God, their families, themselves and the global society. St. John’s School is accredited by the Virginia Catholic Education Association (VCEA) whose accreditation process has been approved by the Virginia Council for Private Education Committee on Accreditation.

Religious Education
St John’s offers weekly classes for children from Kindergarten through grade eight. These classes are offered on Sunday morning from 10:30-11:45am for K through 7th Grade and Sunday afternoon from 1:15-2:30pm for K through 8th Grade. Registrations for the 2008-2009 school year will close as of August 31, 2008. Registrations for the 2008-2009 year will begin in the Spring of 2009. Youth Program
St. John’s Catholic Youth Group provides high school teens of the parish an opportunity to grow in their faith and understanding of what it means to be a Catholic and to lead a Catholic/Sacramental life as an adolescent. Youth Group meets on Sunday and Wednesday evenings during the school year at the Parish Center. Homeschool ~ St. John's provides a support group for home-schooling families to encourage learning in a faith-filled environment. For information please call Roberta Chester at 540-347-5468.

Adult Formation
St John offers a number of opportunities for adults to deepen their understanding of Christian teaching and the Word of God.

  • RCIA/RCIC
    RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is a program for adults who are inquiring about the Catholic faith. RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation for Children) is a program for children that have reached the age of reason but who have not received the Sacraments of Baptism and/or Holy Communion and Confirmation). This year the Inquiry and RCIA classes will be combined and will be held on Monday evenings from 7:30-9pm in the St. John School.   • Scripture Study
    Periodically throughout the year we offer Scripture study classes. Beginning in mid-September, the Thursday evening Scripture Study will meet from 7:30-8:30pm in the St. John School Library to study various books of the Bible. Classes are informal and drop-ins are always welcome.
  • Marriage Preparation
  • Contact the parish office at least six months before the wedding.
  • Parent’s Baptismal Preparation
    A class for new parents who have not previously had a child baptized at St. John is offered on the first Saturday and the second Wednesday of each month. Please call the Parish Office at 347-2922 to schedule a Baptism and/or sign up for one of the classes.
  • Ministry of Moms Sharing (M.O.M.S.)
    The Ministry of Moms Sharing (M.O.M.S.) is a group of parish moms reaching out to mothers of young children and new mothers with a mission to foster community within St. John's parish through friendship, service, playgroup, prayer, outreach programs, spiritual/adult education and social activities. We meet periodically for playgroup at various places and for MOMs night out. We also sponsor the Red Cross Blood drives periodically.
