Welcome to St. John the Evangelist

We, the Eucharistic Community of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, gather to celebrate our communion with God the Father, Christ the Teacher, and with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, through worship, education, and community activities.

"Salvation – deliverance from the reality of evil, and the gift of new life and freedom in Christ – is at the heart of the Gospel. We need to discover, as I have suggested, new and engaging ways of proclaiming this message and awakening a thirst for the fulfillment which only Christ can bring. It is in the Church’s liturgy, and above all in the sacrament of the Eucharist, that these realities are most powerfully expressed and lived in the life of believers" (Pope Benedict XVI, Address to Bishops, Washington, DC, April 16, 2008).

“Keep the Sabbath Day Holy” ~ All Catholics are required to attend Mass on Sunday and every Holy Day of Obligation throughout the year unless there is an extenuating circumstance, such as serious illness or severe weather, precluding the observance of this obligation. Failure to observe regular Mass attendance is a mortal sin. Children who have attained the age of reason (approximately seven years) must attend Mass as well. If they are unable to get themselves to Mass, it is the parent or guardian in charge who is now in the state of sin. This obligation can be fulfilled at St. John’s by attending Holy Mass beginning with the Saturday vigil at 5pm, or on Sunday including the 5:30pm Mass. A Mass attended during the day or the early afternoon (before 5pm) on Saturday, does not fulfill your Sunday obligation.

Fasting ~ Fast one hour before receiving Communion. If you are chewing gum, or eating anything, or have taken a drink other than water, you HAVE broken the fast and MUST NOT RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION. Water and medicine may be taken up to the time of receiving Holy Communion.
